It wasn’t that long ago that wine was intimidating and overwhelming for Chrissy Metz. But a curiosity about the winemaking process grew into a full-blown passion for wine, says the Emmy- and Golden Globe–nominated star of NBC's This Is Us. That passion has grown into her own California wine label, Joyful Heart, with a beneficiary that is close to Metz’ heart as well: chef José Andrés' World Central Kitchen.

The Joyful Heart Wine Company is a partnership between Metz and winemaker Nicole Walsh, who met via a virtual wine tasting earlier this year. Their lineup includes a 2020 white blend (Sauvignon Blanc with Chardonnay) from Mendocino ($16) and two Cabernet-based blends, a 2020 from Lodi ($16) and a 2019 reserve bottling from Santa Barbara aged 22 months in French oak ($40).

"The incredible winemaking process from start to finish still boggles my mind," Metz told Wine Spectator via email. "Nicole is a world-class and classically trained winemaker who is so down-to-earth and excited to share her passion with others, and we had the best time [determining] what flavors and notes I loved and would love to share."

And true to its name, Joyful Heart has a feel-good angle as well: 10 percent of sales have been earmarked for World Central Kitchen. "Food is really the agent of change," Metz said. "Not only does World Central Kitchen create jobs, they improve food security and safety and their many programs have helped thousands in recent crisis situations."
