Chef Daniel Humm is auctioning off some exclusive experiences from Eleven Madison Park before it reopens to the public, including a private dinner in the kitchen of the legendary Wine Spectator Grand Award winner in New York. The items are available through an online auction hosted by The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, running today through March 31.
Established in 1971, The Albers Foundation honors the legacy of contemporary artists Josef and Anni Albers by creating and supporting art projects and promoting education through residencies and internships. Humm, who is quite passionate about contemporary art, has an Albers work in his personal collection. His donations are one of several up for sale to benefit Le Korsa, the foundation’s sister organization with a mission to support culture, education and health in rural Senegalese communities. The event is specifically raising money for Le Korsa’s soon-to-open maternity and pediatric wing of the Tambacounda Hospital in Senegal.
“I am proud to partner with The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation for this auction, as the artists have always inspired me as a fellow creative soul,” Humm said in a statement shared with Wine Spectator. “The work that the foundation is doing in Senegal is crucial to create an equitable future through medicine and art.”
The private dinner has a starting bid of $50,000 and is available for up to 14 guests, who will get to preview the new menu before the restaurant eventually returns from its pandemic-related closure in March 2020. Wine pairings will be coordinated with the winner and sourced from Eleven Madison Park’s cellar of 22,000 bottles.
Also for sale from Eleven Madison Park are a virtual wine tasting with wine director Cedric Nicaise, a custom at-home meal for four and a copy of The Next Chapter, a cookbook that’s normally only available to purchase at the restaurant. Additionally, a personalized copy of the cookbook will be gifted to those who make the first three donations of at least $1,000.
These join several high-end items from other parties as well, like a two-night stay from the Four Seasons George V Hotel in Paris, a limited-edition Hermès scarf and an original watercolor by German painter Tomma Abts. Auction registration is now open.
