For months or even a year after contracting COVID-19, some patients have reported a total or partial loss of their senses of smell and taste. Data suggests people who suffer milder cases of COVID-19 are actually more likely to suffer this olfactory dysfunction. Scientists are still trying to understand why the disease has these lasting effects and whether anything can speed recovery.
